BDB COMPETITORS
REPRESENT CANADA IN KRAKOW, POLAND
at the 2010 Fila Grappling World Championships

First here are results from the BDB Members that competed in Krakow, Poland on the week-end (March 27-28):

Canadian Team Coach: Brian Bird
Assistant Coach: Shawn Geris
Competitors: Sheila Bird (BDB, Calgary), John Louro (BDB, Calgary), Jaret Evans (BDB, Calgary), Rory McDonell (Joslins, Toronto), Maxime Poulin (Nomad Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sherbrooke, Quebec)

Sheila Bird took 3 Gold medals in Poland (no-gi 60kg, no-gi absolute, Gi 60kg) including beating female MMA legend Tara LaRosa and 2 wins against BJJ Black belt world champion Laurence Fouillat-Cousin in finals: REALLY Tough competitors this year. Now Sheila gets a fully paid trip to China in September for World Combat Games!!

John Louro took Silver in 60kg Gi.

John did not place in no-gi because of a loss to a very good French fighter that went on to win gold. John had a rematch with this French fighter in Gi and came in refocused and pulled out the win in a very tough overtime victory!

This is the first Silver medal John has won at the world championships having taken a bronze medal in the 2008 games.

Jaret Evans did not place but had some very good tough matches and he came away with some great experience by having competed against such a high level of fighters.

More importantly Jaret is now credited with having found, in Krakow, probably the best damn desert (Apple Cake) I have every had in my life and that contribution to both team and country will not be forgotten!! :-)

Over all this was a great tournament with incredibly high competition and the most countries represent every at a Fila Grappling Worlds.
