Congratulations to everyone who competed. The team kicked ass as usual showing fantastic skill and technique!
Some highlights of the day:
John Louro tapping out his final opponent (Gracie Barra Calgary Brown Belt) in under 2 minutes for the Gold.
Jason Day winning the Absolute division beating a BJJ Black Belt from Brazil in the semi final. Jason has fought MMA in the UFC but is still willing to step up and compete in local events. This is how champions are made.
Ron Bushfield launching his opponents with so many firemen throws someone in the crowd comment he should be an honorary fireman. :-)
Brett Bohlman won his bronze medal match in Pankration by making his opponent quit from massive body shots.
Andrew Derry winning his Silver medal in Pankration with a come from behind triangle submission after having been rocked with an accidental knee to the head.
Shae Erickson finally winning the elusive Gold medal after having placed 2nd in his last 6 tournaments.
Dusty Kramps, Jordon Boa, and Gerad Pattison took Gold with this being their first time competing at this event.
Michelle Missicotte - deciding to jump in and compete in kickboxing last minute and walking away with the Gold.
Lance Kampela - jumping into the grappling because Michelle said "if I'm doing this, so are you!" :-)
Caitlin Pakosh - Won her first match against a BJJ blue belt. Caitlin has been training for less than 1 year. Her best submission was an arm triangle from mount. She went on to win Silver in the Gi and Bronze in the No-Gi
Carmelle Bolo - Weighing in at 112 lbs with all her clothing on Carmelle was easily the smallest girl in her division. She had 2 matches and fought very hard. It is too bad she didn't pull out the win this time.
Christine Blanchette - All her matches were wars. She had 2 very close triangle choke attempts. Next time she'll finish them for sure. She won Bronze medal in the Gi pulling out a hard fought win.
Lindsay Stewart - She fought some very tough fights. She got a difficult draw and had to fight an opponent who outweighed her by quite a bit. She went the distance but there were no points scored and she lost the judges decision.
Congratulation to everyone!
