Sheila competes at World's most prestigious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament. April 15-17, 2010

Sheila competed in The World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Cup April 15-17, 2010 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This tournament is considered to be one of the most prestigious tournaments in the World. Sheila won the trials in Montreal, QC beating 2009 World champion Sofia Amarante to qualify to compete in Abu Dhabi which was a fully paid trip for Sheila.

There were 19 women in Sheila's under 63kg weight category. Competitors came from Brazil, US, South Africa, Japan, France, UAE, Kwait, Australia and Sweden. This was the toughest women's division ever.

Sheila's results. Her first and unfortunately only match was against the Brazilian finalist Beatriz Mesquita who was the favourite to win the whole tournament. Sheila took it the whole distance giving Beatriz the hardest fight of the competition. Beatriz won by 2 points on Sheila for a sweep. After Beatriz's fight with Sheila she went on to fight 3 more matches where she completely dominated all her opponents until the final which she lost by a judges decision. Sheila was easily one of the best girls in the 19 female division, she just happened to get a tough draw and couldn't go on to fight more fights.

The event itself was amazing. Sheila is looking forward to trying out to compete in this competition again next time.
